Museum quality piece!

This sculpture is an extremely rare eagle with fish presented by Canada’s most recognized Inuit artist, Pitseolak (Pits) Qimirpik from Kimmirut. Pits is among three elite Inuit artists in Canada who have won international status. His carvings are found in Canada’s national art collection in Ottawa and in exhibitions around the world.

The last time he carved one of his famous eagles was a year ago. The stone dust puts a tremendous strain on his health. So like Lucassie Ikkidluak, he limits himself to only 2 or 3 per year. In this case, just one.

Pits is renowned for his birds especially his owls. All of his masterpiece sculptures capture the hearts of serious Inuit art collectors. This adoration and respect for Pits’ body of work is reflected in the high prices the sculptures fetch.

Our gaze is constantly rewarded as we witness the life and death struggle between this particular eagle and fish. We look up to the sky and for a split moment in time, we bear witness to the shared experience of the hunter and the hunted. The scene is simple but potent. The eagle is powerful and intense as he concentrates on holding onto the wiggling fish. Strangely, the fish is serene and appears to emote a determined resolve to stay alive. The lines and proportions of this carving are immaculate. The polish and colour of an electric apple green stone are breathtaking.

It is very difficult for a gallery to acquire a Qimirpik eagle and even harder to keep it available to our customers. Our knowledgeable collectors immediately recognize the mastery of this depiction of Hunter and the Hunted. Even our most discerning clientele can be fooled into thinking this powerful vignette is real!
